What a great way to contribute to the still recovering economy that was affected by Superstorm Sandy than bringing the Miss America Pageant back home again to Atlantic City. But the news is reporting that the fifty three contestants of the Miss America Pageant arrived in Atlantic City on Sept. 2, 2012 to prepare for this big event.
They began with a signing in ceremony where they wrote their state on a map of the United States and gave an introduction. Three nights of preliminary competition will begin on Sept. 10 followed by the traditional Show Us Your Shoes Parade on Sept. 14. Then on Sept. 15, 2013, millions of people around the world will watch as the contestants will compete to be an icon of America in 2014.
The pageant originated in 1920 as the Fall Frolic, which was a swimsuit competition to keep business was coming after Labor Day. Even today, the pageant still prides itself as being the world's largest scholarship programs for women in all fifty states, including Washington D.C, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In order to help boost the local economy, the contestants will be having photo sh0ots while shopping and eating at local restaurants. So if people are in the area, they can also do the same, see the contestants before they go on the big screen, and help the local economy improve.
