Atlanta youth team wins Silver Stick championship in Canada

The Atlanta Fire 2004 minor youth hockey team achieved a major accomplishment in Pelham, Ontario, Canada.

The Fire squad consisting of Daniel Astapovich (2005 birth year), Ben Balthasar, Adam Costley, Davis Nolan, Chase Draper, Thomas Durrett, Harrison Fogel, Ethan Fredericks, Luka Iyutin, Colin Kwak, Peyton Leonard, Ben Moalusi, Hudson Orgeron, Zach Rizzo, Noah Smith, and Chance Uzzell stunned the New Jersey Shore Riptide, Ontario Aurora Tigers and the Ontario Petrolia Oilers, Ontario Orangeville Flyers, Tri-Valley Blue Devils, Ontario Orangeville Flyers and the Chicago Hawks in the Silver Stick finals winning in their division.

The Atlanta Fire Squirt 04s traveled to Niagara Falls/Pelham Jan 9th to participate in the 15th annual International Silver Stick AE Finals and returned home victorious to the delight of family, friends, and parents.

. The semi-final match was an exciting and hard fought battle with the Ontario Orangeville Flyers that ended in a 3 -2 Fire victory. The championship game was an all American game between the Atlanta Fire and Chicago Hawks. The first period ended in a 0 – 0 tie. The Hawks scored at the 5:48 mark of the second period. The Fire team started the third period with Daniel Astapovich scoring to tie the game. The 2004’s kept the pressure on and Luka Ivutin scored the game winning goal in the third period.

With their victory, the Atlanta Fire Squirt 04’s will have their name inscribed on the Silver Sticks plaque in the Hockey Hall of Fame next to the Stanley Cup.

The championship team was coached by Greg Davis, Andrew Runner, SamYokubonis, and Kyu Kwak.
