Recently, former Hot 107.9 morning host Ryan Cameron became the new V-103 morning host.
Cameron replaced top-rated V-103 morning host “Frank Ski And Wanda Smith Show.” After seven successfully years as the number one rated morning show in Atlanta, Ski left V-103 amidst deadlock contract negotiations. Ski wanted a syndicated morning show broadcasted nationwide, but V-103 management wanted the morning show to remain local.
Cameron is locally known as the “crown prince” of Atlanta Hip Hop music. Cameron developed the multi-talented Ludacris, when the burgeoning Hip Hop artist worked as his radio intern in the late 1990s at Hot 97.5 (now Hot 107.9).
“I used to get yelled at all the time for little stuff, like I didn’t have a song in the right order,” Ludacris regretfully said. “Something minor, but he was adamant about certain things. Mainly, when the team messes up, that’s him messing up. And he is determined not to mess up.”
Former V-103 morning host Mike Robert, who owns a Macon radio station, discovered Cameron at a Labor Day comedy competition. Roberts invited the precocious comedian to audition as a radio intern at V-103. Subsequently, Cameron became a full-time radio night jock earning reportedly $23,000 annually.
“He was terrible,” Mary Catherine Sneed reportedly said, who was the former V-103 Vice President and current Radio One Chief Operating Officer, which owns Hot 107.9. “But he was the best of those who auditioned, and was given the slot temporarily. With the pressure off, within a week, he got the job.”
Atlanta native Cameron is a popular family-oriented 47-year-old radio personality, and previously worked as the V-103 afternoon host. Cameron reportedly earned $500,000 annually as the V-103 afternoon host, which is a morning host yearly salary.
“My goal is for the city to understand that we want to be as local as possible,” Cameron reportedly said. “We’re going to cover all the things (rival syndicated morning shows) can’t.”
The ambitious Cameron is planning to make “Ryan Cameron Show” the most popular radio morning show in Atlanta. Since Cameron was born and raised in the Bankhead area of Atlanta, the popular radio host understands the music and consumer demographics of the city.
“My goal on the radio is not to get you sad and depressed, when you get to work,” Cameron reportedly said. “I want to be the dad my dad was for me. My kids enjoy me. I want to do a radio show that some people say is not the radio show they’re used to.”
Rise up Atlanta and tune into the “Ryan Cameron Show.”
