Atlanta team wins National title

The Atlanta Phoenix earned their name as they rose to the top of their division. The squad achieved the ultimate goal winning the Tier II USA National championship.

The Phoenix played some tough competition on their way to the ultimate prize defeating Utah 3-2 and the Nashville Jr. Predators 7-3.

In round one against Utah Jacob Nash stepped up with 2 goals and the special teams delivered on the power-play in a close matchup.

In round two both teams directed a lot of shots at the net, but Atlanta was more effective hitting the back of the net. Atlanta outshot Nashville 35 -32. Goaltender Mike Sobczyk was solid in goal and Seth Johnson (2 goals and 1 assist) and Mike Leon (3 assists) generated the offense to win the game decisively. Atlanta’s power-play and strong penalty killing units made the difference.

In the final round Atlanta displayed a superior offense led by Austin Magera (3 goals and 1 assists) Jacob Nash ( 2 goals ) and Mike Leon ( 2 assists). The entire Atlanta squad played a strong defensive game finishing checks and covering the opposition in front of the goal.
The win was quite an accomplishment for an Atlanta Phoenix team that faced several adverse situations but managed to jell and win important games throughout the season.
