If your next vacation seems too far away, or you are just hungering to explore a new area of Atlanta, the little lane of Bennett Street in Buckhead may be just the spot for you. Located just off of Peachtree Street downtown, there is plenty of parking if you wish to drive, or you can take the #110 bus from the Arts Center Marta station. With art galleries, antique shops, and boutiques, as well as a friendly neighborhood cafe, the street has everything you could want in a sublime afternoon escape.
Your first stop on Bennett Street should be the Museum of Contemporary Art, or MOCA GA. Due to celebrate its tenth anniversary next year, this unique museum is currently showing Micah Stansell's multimedia project "The Water and the Blood," a series of captivating photographs set to three different soundtracks, as well as the Brett Abbott Selects series of 85 photographs by 44 different artists from MOCA GA's permanent collection. For a modest entrance fee ($5 for adults, $1 for students or seniors, free to members), the museum provides a stimulating beginning to your afternoon.
If you would like a break after the museum, stop by The Green Room, just up the street. From their flavored cappuccinos and lattes to the decadent red velvet cupcakes, the cafe has just the right treats to get you through the afternoon, and the staff and decor are both warm and welcoming. If you can pull yourself away from their cozy couches, the Designer Consigns and Suggas Thrift Boutique both offer fun fashion at a steal. Finally, there are several antique stores, including The Stalls, to round out your afternoon adventure.
Whether you're a fan of art, antiques, or shopping, Bennett Street is a hidden gem in Buckhead to turn your Saturday afternoon into a revitalizing staycation. Enjoy!
