Atlanta school shooting: Georgia teen, 14, shot in head by fellow student

A Atlanta school shooting has been reported by ABC news. The school shooting happened today at an middle school near downtown Atlanta. Authorities say they have taken a suspect into custody, and transported the victim to a hospital.

The incident occurred at Price Middle School in southeast Atlanta. Police responded to the scene about 1:50 p.m. today, and found a 14-year-old boy who had been shot in the head. Carlos Campos, a Atlanta police spokesman, says the injured teen was taken "alert, conscious and breathing" to Grady Hospital.

The shooter is believed to be another student, but no other information was readily available. The school remained on lockdown as of 3:25 p.m. ET. Concerned parents rushed to the school, but were told all students not involved in the shooting were safe inside. Reports say Carver High School and Slater Elementary School, both nearby, were also on lockdown.

A teacher was also injured during the shooting, but suffered only minor cuts and bruises and was treated at the scene.

The hospital has not released the condition of the victim.
