The Georgia Aquarium won the top honor on Wednesday as online voters from around the world selected Atlanta's top tourist destination as the number one aquarium in North America.

USA Today's Best Aquarium Contest was open to voters who selected their favorite aquatic wildlife location in the Americas. "We have amazing news! We are officially the #1 aquarium in North America via USA TODAY 10Best," the Georgia Aquarium said in an announcement on Wednesday. "We are honored to be included with a great group of aquariums."

The Atlanta aquarium's employees shared their appreciation for the number one title with a video montage.

Home to one hundred thousand exotic fish and marine life swimming in ten million gallons of water, the Georgia Aquarium remains the number one destination with Atlanta visitors as the aquarium begins it's tenth year in November.

Three of the top five aquariums are located within a 250-mile line of interstate highway running from eastern Tennessee south into Atlanta. The full list of top ten aquariums selected by voters include:

Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, Texas
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Shedd Aquarium in Chicago
Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California
Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, Canada
Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut
Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska
National Aquarium in Baltimore

The Georgia Aquarium's beluga whale exhibit features four of the most entertaining mammals on the planet as they swim before guests in one of the aquarium's massive tanks. The Dolphin Tales show remains a popular added attraction as audiences view the dynamic dolphins performing aquatic feats.
