The Atlanta School Board has made it known, that APS is in need for the new superintendent now. Dr. Meria Carstarphen is schedule to start July 7, 2014. The board is seeking outside funds to get the new superintendent to arrive early to Atlanta and get on the payroll. The board voted unanimously for the new superintendent and now they want her to start early.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2014, the board approved a resolution that would allow Dr. Carstarphen to establish a transition team. Courtney English, Board Chairman announced plans to raise money from private donors. The money in the melody of $500,000 to $1 million from outside sources. The money would compensate Carstarphen and her team for their interim work until their contracts begin. The money will also cover the expenses and work of the team.Who will the new superintendent bring from Austin, Texas? Who will she bring from the outside?
Dr. Carstarphen last day in Austin, Texas was April 22. Traditional schools in APS start, Monday, July 21, 2014. English stated that the board wanted all the money for the 2014-15 school year to be spent on student improvement. Interim Superintendent Erroll Davis has consented to work with Dr. Carstarphen during this transition period.
Dr. Carstarphen has been working in Atlanta Public Schools since her departure from AISD. She packed her bags and gave her goodbyes to Austin, Texas. Dr. Carstarphen is primed for the challenges of APS and the city of Atlanta.
