An Atlanta police patrol officer has been accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old girl, police confirmed Thursday.
But who filed the complaint on Sunday and the details of the messages were not released Thursday.
The officer, whose name was not released, has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.
The allegations were reported to the APD Zone 1 precinct, located west of downtown, and the supervisors turned the case over to the department’s Office of Professional Standards for investigation, Officer Chafee said.
“The Department’s Special Victims Unit is also looking at the incident and will consult with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office to determine if there are any criminal violations,” Officer Chafee said in an email.
“The allegations are being taken seriously and if determined to be true, disciplinary action will be taken against the officer.”
