Atlanta gets more snow than expected in winter storm - Delta cancels flights

Atlanta, GA braced for another winter storm, the second in less than a month for the southern state. Snow accumulations, expected to be between 2 to 3 inches rose as much as 5.5 inches in GA's Cobb County--7 inches in Walker County--and reports of continued snow fall mixed with sleet were still coming as early as 6 a.m.

Atlanta-Journal Constitution (AJC) reported that up to 2,700 customers of North GA Electric Power were without service in the early morning hours, scattered from the northern part of the state to the southern and western portions as well.

Metro Atlanta residents were experiencing less power outages than those elsewhere in the state, but roads remained treacherous all over Georgia, prompting law enforcement in Atlanta to advise drivers involved in accidents to leave the scene if there were no injuries involved and download the online report themselves for completion, according to the APD spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport.

Due to manpower limitations, the Atlanta Police Dept. will only be able to respond on Monday to vehicle accident entrapments and injury-related accidents on the road. Drivers are urged to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, reduce speed if you have to be on the roads, and to put more distance between your car and the one traveling in front of you.

Delta cancelled 29 of their scheduled 42 flights due to leave Hartsfield-Jackson on Monday during the hours of 6 to 8 a.m. and Marta bus travel was delayed until 7 a.m.

Winter storm conditions are expected to continue throughout Monday and on into Tuesday.
