I am so happy to report that new burlesque talent is coming out of Atlanta’s ears for the past two months! Ruby Le Chatte, and Jacqueline Trade debuted Fat Cat Cabaret in December. Kitty Love (no relation) debuted her Cheeky Belles as well at The Red Light Café, and Fonda Lingue, the Diamond Dame herself will be putting together something quite new in that she will be putting together a dinner theatre show for a few sparkling nights in 2013 and I just can’t wait to catch it! I sat down with Fonda before her planned auditions and she had quite a lot to say about her new little project.
Fonda comes from a rich background of internationally touring ballet and has been teaching for years. Her style and grace truly sets her apart in Atlanta Burlesque and I can’t recommend any project that has her named tied to it enough. She was crowned King of Burlesque at Southern Exposure in 2010, and is a much sought out teacher of her preferred form of artistic expression. I am really looking forward to this event, being held at Elliott Street Pub on February 23rd. I say mark it in permanent ink on your calendars because you won’t want to miss it.
How is your show going to be different than what Atlanta has seen from the Burlesque scene in the past?
My goal is to take you back to the days of the Casino de Paris. The Elliott Street Pub is an intimate venue, which gives it the perfect "jewel box" feel. It will be a revue of not only burlesque but singers, musicians, puppeteers, dancers and the likes. My goal is to bring Atlanta a true musical revue. As a matter of fact, music will be the thread that holds the whole show together. I would also like to give Atlanta exclusive acts developed especially for The Jewel Box Revue. We are also working on having live music. Things that can't be seen anywhere else. I am also planning a "(Naughty) Nutcracker" in December!
What are you most excited about with your new troupe?
We are not technically a troupe, although there will be 4 "Jewel Box Girls" who will be the thread that holds the show together. I am hoping that these Jewel Box Girls will be younger, inexperienced dancers that have promise as burlesque dancers and that the performers can act as mentors to them. I am most excited that I get to bring my version of the burlesque shows of the Golden Era of Burlesque to the stage. It may not be historically accurate but more of what my mind has translated it to be.
Auditions will be on January 5 for Jewel Box girls. All interested performers must send a video of their act to fonda@fondalingue.com or they may audition on January 5. Auditions will be at Elliott Street Pub from 2 to 6.
How does a burlesque hopeful get to be a part of The Jewel Box Revue?

Tell us how your schedule will go, and the dates you plan to take at Elliott Street:
I have submitted for dates in February (valentine's theme), May (floral theme), August (Sizzling Hot Summer) and December (The (Naughty) Nutcracker). I am trying to coordinate with other groups as to not overlap dates. I want to enhance the burlesque community and offer more opportunities for professional artists.
The first show date is February 23, dinner show at 8 and regular show at 10:00. Cost will be 30.00 for the dinner show and 18.00 for the regular. The theme is "love is in the air" !
