What’s your BBQ Style? Whether it’s Texas, Carolina, Memphis, St. Louis or Kentucky, the Atlanta BBQ Fest is for you, September 14-15. They call themselves “Atlanta's best smelling, best tasting event of the year” and it’s this Friday (4-10p) and Saturday (noon-8p) in Atlanta Station, Midtown. The Fourth annual fest will include backyard teams and top restaurants, plus live music, cooking demos, a car show and a kid’s area.
Over 50 teams will compete for over $10,000 in cash prizes, trophies and those all-important bragging rights. Pro Teams will compete in 4 categories including: Brisket, Chicken, Pulled Pork, Ribs. Backyard Teams will compete in ribs, pork and chicken categories. You can also get a taste of some of Atlanta’s top BBQ restaurants, including D.B. A. Barbeque, Fox Brothers and Williams Brothers.
Tickets are $6 in advance and $10 the day of the event, but that only gets you into the event, not any BBQ samples. All sample sales are cash only. There are two ways to “taste” your way through the event for participants. Friday is the Drumstick Dine Around, starting at 6p. Eight competitive BBQ teams will serve drumsticks for $2 each. Saturday is Taste of the Pig, pork samples. Purchase $1 pulled pork and whole hog samples at participating team booths. Sampling starts at noon. More than 20 teams will be offering up samples on Saturday. Both days you can be purchase samples from booths with blue flags, but come early as supplies will run out.
This year's cook-off is an official Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned contest and KCBS rules will apply.
