    Not 100% sure, but I'll try.

    Dr. William O’Stillman. He founded the American Humane Association & he created Be Kind to Animals Week in 1915, which marked the birth of humane education.

    Henry Bergh, he founded the ASPCA in New York City in 1866.

    The answer I was looking for is that Henry Bergh started the humane movement in the US in 1866 by founding the ASPCA. Others started other organizations soon thereafter, but he was the first, and arguably, the most forceful advocate for the protection of animals in his time.

    The American Humane Association was founded several years later, but it was the first humane organization that was truly national in scope, so I'll call 'ZeusThunderRock' the winner for this round.
