Athreos, God of Passage - 1WB
Legendary Enchantment Creature (God)
As long as your devotion to white and black is less than seven, Athreos isn't a creature.
Whenever another creature you own dies, return it to your hand unless target opponent pays 3 life.
Athreos, God of Passage's low casting cost of three means you'll be able to quickly take advantage of its global ability, being able to return creatures that die to your hand unless an opponent pays three life. We immediately thought of sacrifice effects, in particular the three card combo of Festering Newt, Bogbrew Witch and Bubbling Cauldron. Athreos, God of Passage is also great in conjunction with Champion of Stray Souls, Eater of Hope, and every other card that allows you to sacrifice.
One way to really gain value out of Athreos, God of Passage is if you're abusing creatures that have enters the battlefield abilities. Creatures that are impressive on their own such as Banisher Priest, Sin Collector, Angel of Serenity, and Shadowborn Demon will come back to devastate your rival again unless they pay the three life. Sooner or later though, they're going to run out and you'll be able to overwhelm your enemy. Regardless of what you're sacrificing, Dark Prophecy can allow you to quickly gain a significant amount of card advantage.
Did we mention Athreos, God of Passage can transform into a 5/4 indestructible creature? Just watch out for a Deicide.
