A 67-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon after the impact with a tanker forced her car to travel across several lanes of traffic before it landed upside down in a ditch off a road in Athens.

Ms. Juliana Leonne Moses died at the scene of the wreck, which happened around 2 p.m. on Jefferson Road near the intersection of Camak Drive, Athens-Clarke County police announced Thursday.

Investigators said Ms. Moses was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry southbound on Jefferson Road at the same time Mr. James Phillip Power, 50, of Comer, was driving a 2004 International owned by Boswell Oil in the same direction.

Ms. Moses was traveling behind the tanker when her Camry struck the much larger vehcile on the right rear corner, police spokeswoman Ms. Hilda Sorrow said.

“(The) impact caused the Moses vehicle to cross all lanes of Jefferson Road and come to rest upside down in a ditch on the east side of the road,” Ms. Sorrow said.

Mr. Power was not injured in the wreck, Ms. Sorrow said.

“No charges have been filed pending completion (of) the investigation,” she said.
