The healthcare information technology company Athenahealth, Inc. will soon expand into Atlanta, bringing 500 new jobs.
The company was formerly based in Watertown, Massachusetts and was founded in 1997. It also acquired Anodyne Health which is based in Alpharetta. The two companies consolidated with its Alpharetta team and approximately 100 workers will move to the new location. About 500 jobs will also come over in the next five years.
I know some are asking, what is Athenahealth? To put it simply, it is a "cloud based" medical technology system that provides integrated practice management, electronic care and coordination of services. This cloud based system is for helping thousands of healthcare, practices and hospitals around the country give more money and more control of patient care while achieving better financial health.
The system is cloud based, meaning there is no hardware or software to install, upgrade or maintain ever. All that is needed is an internet connection and a pc to manage and optimize appointments, scheduling and billing, evaluate productivity and monitor cash flow. The system is continuously updating its clients through the network of proprietary database of insurance rules.
This allows continuous management of virtually everything from patient accounts, to insurance rules, patient health records, care coordination and more. If a claim has been denied then the system updates itself, the necessary fix is made, and the learning from that fix is automatically delivered to Athena health clients nationwide. Technology at its best.
