Atheists of Florida elects new board of directors

On Sunday, the Atheists of Florida (board 1), announced the results of the election that was just completed.  10 new board members were elected by popular vote. The board will serve three year terms and their first meeting will be held Sunday Feb 19ths.

60 ballots were received and each member received more that 50% of the vote cast. The new board consists of:

  • Steve Brown
  • Robert Byrch
  • Ed Golly
  • Gloria Julius
  • Gael Murphy
  • Nan Owens
  • James Peterson
  • Frank Prahl
  • Tracy Thomas
  • David Williamson

They will be joined by chapter directors:  Jessica Parrish (Orlando), Lauren Podolak (Port Richey), and Dave Nichols (Manasota).

Ellenbeth Wachs and John Kieffer, who are directors of the Lakeland and Tampa groups respectively will not be seated on this board because they were expelled from the organization (according to the outgoing members of board 1) in October. However, Ellenbeth and John consider themselves to be the president and vice president of a rival board for the Atheists of Florida. The conflict over which board has legitimacy is being considered by a judge.
