On Thursday, June 19, local author Frank Zafiro announced on his Facebook page that his crime fiction novel set in Spokane "At Their Own Game" has been adapted as an unabridged audiobook that is available now from Audible.com and Amazon. Now crime fiction lovers have the option of following all the twists and turns in Zafiro's plot in another format.

"At Their Own Game" is the story of former police officer turned small-time criminal Jake Stankovic and what happens after he and his crew try to break into the crystal meth trade. Soon, Jake runs afoul of both a local police detective and a drug lord and he must stay one step ahead of them. Meanwhile, at exactly the worst possible time, an old flame returns to Spokane and tries to become part of his life again. Those are only some of the complications that arise in a story about one local man's descent into darkness.

According to the synopsis on Zafiro's official website, "Jake Stankovic has been flying below the radar for years, dealing safely in stolen property crime with his two-man crew. But times are tough, so he decides to step up to the big money with a drug deal. Everything that can go wrong, does. The deal goes bad, a vengeful detective sets his sights on Jake, one of his crew might be a turncoat, and a woman from a long past affair suddenly reappears. All of this would be complicated enough on it’s own, but for Jake, it’s even worse.

"The woman is the detective’s ex-wife. ... Now Jake must face new problems and old vendettas in an all-in proposition with lives on the line. He has to find a way to get his money back, keep the girl, and beat everyone involved…At Their Own Game."

The audio edition features the same hard-hitting story. On his Facebook page, Zafiro said it is brought to life by the narration of actor Peter Husmann. Husmann has appeared in a few films and television shows, but people may be more familiar with his work in audiobooks. He has narrated classic works such as "White Fang" by Jack London, "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne and "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell.

The audiobook edition is six hours and 30 minutes long. It currently retails for $17.46, but it is also available for free as part of a 30-day trial for new Audible subscribers. Those who would prefer to read the original print edition may purchase it in Amazon Kindle ebook format for $4.99 or in a paperback edition that is available through CreateSpace for $11.69.

Readers in the greater Spokane area who would like to learn more about Zafiro's latest audiobook and his many other works should visit his official website. The site features free previews of his books, including the first three chapters of "At Their Own Game", videos, links to his Facebook page and his Twitter profile. The site also features information about how to order all of his books, audiobooks and short story collections.
