AT&T starts rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update to the Nokia Lumia 1520

According to popular tech blog, WPCentral, AT&T released a statement on July 24 confirming that the Nokia Lumia 1520 will be receiving the Windows Phone 8.1 update starting at 1PM ET on July 24. The announcement follows hot on the heels of a comment made by an AT&T customer service rep in the official AT&T forums earlier on this week.

This is big news for fans of Microsoft's smartphone platform as the update to Windows Phone 8.1, and Nokia Cyan marks the first device in the U.S to receive the OTA (over-the-air) update from any of the four major carriers. While AT&T are usually quite slow about issuing updates to their smartphones (especially on the Android Platform), the carrier has been routinely punctual when it comes to updating their Windows Phone devices.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia 1520 simply have to go into their settings menu, scroll down the menu until they see Update Phone, and then hit the Check for Update button. Rest assured that while the download might not be available for your device immediately, it will be ready at some point today. AT&T and many other carriers usually roll out the updates in batches to relieve strain from their servers, and so that the carrier can act quickly if there are any widespread issues.

At this point AT&T has not released any statement in regards to other Lumia devices on their network and when users can expect to see the update, but one would assume that following a successful roll out to the Lumia 1520, other devices will not be far behind.
The Windows Phone 8.1 update is one of the most highly anticipated releases this year in the smartphone world, in fact the update is so big for the platform that many are already considering it a game changer.

Along with enhanced stability and security, users will now be able to use Cortana (which is Microsoft’s answer to Siri and Google Now), the all new Action Center (notification center) and the new WordFlow keyboard. Another big change in the update will be to the amount of customization Microsoft will allow within the OS.

If you are a Nokia Lumia 1520 owner the update is now available for you to download and enjoy. Head on over to the AT&T official blog for more information about the update.
