BOXING - AT&T (NYSE: T) with over $111 billion in revenue for 2009, and U.S. apparel manufacturer Reebok International are denying that they have an existing endorsement deal with troubled boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr (41-0).
A spokesman for the telecommunications giant, Steve Schwadron, informed Examiner.com (Marv Dumon):
AT&T does not sponsor Floyd Mayweather Jr. We have sponsored several boxing matches, including one that Mr. Mayweather fought in (vs. Shane Mosley on May 1, 2010), but AT&T hasn’t and currently does not sponsor Mr. Mayweather personally . . . . The initial media report stating that we sponsored him was wrong and we are in the process of correcting that . . .

The company said that its business relationship with the boxer was limited to a 2009 television commercial. (However, these commercial ads were also shown in 2010.)
Reebok also denies a current sponsorship deal with the American boxer. At Footlocker stores across the United States, large Mayweather posters promoting Reebok's ZigTech running shoes previously filled stores, but those posters have been replaced with a photo of NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. You see, a celebrity boxer like Mayweather markets his skills and his image. These are the products that he offers to commerce. He doesn't have to have an existing endorsement contract with any company. His image has taken a nose dive. Therefore, no company will want to do any deals in the future with Mayweather essentially limiting his earning capacity even at the height of his popularity. He will eventually fade into irrelevancy and obscurity as he ages and his boxing skills deteriorate. He will most likely become financially disabled given his lavish lifestyle. Like so many other boxers before him who foolishly squandered their money and fame, Mayweather will likely end up in the same fashion as precedence seems to indicate.
