It was controversial a quarter century ago, but the name AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am has steadily been accepted into the standard lexicon of the PGA Tour and among golf enthusiasts.
The event began as the Crosby Clambake and has had five official names. But 2010 marks the celebration of 25 years of AT&T's title sponsorship.
As such, the tournament is offering a 25 percent discount for the 2010 event for 25 days. The promotion begins Sept. 15 and continues for 25 days — through Oct. 9.
The 2010 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am will also have three unique components next year, Feb. 11-14.
The shore course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club will replace Poppy Hills in the course rotation and will join Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach;
The event will serve as a preamble to the U.S. Open, scheduled next June 17-20 at Pebble Beach;
And the prevailing rumor is that Tiger Woods will return to play in the event for the the first time since 2002. Woods has a new sponsorship with AT&T, which has prompted discussions of his return.
Woods also won the 2000 U.S. Open held at Pebble Beach.
