Today, AT&T announced that customers in Miami-DadeCounty are expected to experience improved mobile broadband data and voice connectivity and performance as a result of recent network upgrades.
More mobile broadband capacity has now been added to nine cell sites in Miami, Sweetwater, Westchester, West Miami, Olympia Heights, and West Kendall.
The network enhancements involved adding more layers of frequency, also known as carriers, to the cell sites. This additional capacity makes for the sites abilities to accommodate more traffic. This in turn, helps improve the performance of mobile broadband data and voice connectivity. It also means more jobs guys.
The areas benefiting from the extra mobile broadband capacity include the hospital on N.W. 12th Avenue, and N.W. 19th Street in Miami; West Flagler Street between S.W. 107th and S.W. 87th avenues in Westchester; Coral Terrace and University Park in Sweetwater; the Palmetto Expressway between Westchester and Olympia Heights; and West Miami Junior High School.

AT&T has invested more than $425 million in its Florida wireless and wireline networks in the first half of 2011. And there will be more to come.

And just recently, our elected leaders reinforced a prior expansion commitment by passing the Regulatory Reform Act sponsored by Senator David Simmons, Representative Mike Horner and primary co-sponsor Representative Alan Williams.
The Bill
This bill, CS/CS/SB 1524: Telecommunications; revises legislative intent with respect to the jurisdiction of the Florida Public Service Commission. It also repeals provisions relating to price regulation, regulatory methods for small local exchange telecommunications companies, experimental and transitional rates, limited proceedings, procedures for seeking a stay of proceedings, joint rates, tolls, and contracts, rate adjustment orders, intrastate inter-exchange service contracts, and unlawful charges against consumers, respectively.
AT&T does seem to be expanding as a result of this bill’s passage. And AT&T is hiring Florida workers as a result of this growth. So:
