If the voting trend continues, Edward Burroughs at the age of eighteen will become the youngest elected official in Maryland. With 24 of the 32 precincts reporting Mr. Burroughs is leading Steven Morris with 58% of the vote to Steve Morris’ 42% in the race for the District 8 Board of Education seat. Burroughs who formerly served two terms as the Student Board Member faced off against former Assistant Principal Steven Morris. Morris who in the last few days called Burroughs a child to numerous news publications was backed by the administrators union, SEIU, the Washington Post, and the Gazette all mainly because of his so-called experience. That said Burroughs never gave up or gave in reminding voters that over the last two years as the Student Board Member he has fought for them and deserved to be returned to Upper Marlboro.
In his two years on the Board of Education Edward Burroughs fought relentlessly to expand the power of the Student Member of the Board. He proposed and led unsuccessful charge to reduce the walking distance for elementary students from over 1.5 miles, and delivered on a long awaited plan for a new auditorium at his home school of Crossland.
As of now the incoming Board of Education appears to be made up of incumbents Amber Waller, Verjeana Jacobs, Donna Beck, along with open-seat challengers Margaret Higgins in District 2, Carolyn Boston in District 6, Henry Armwood in District 7, and Edward Burroughs in District 8. The races that remain too close to call are in District 1 between David Murray who is barely trailing incumbent Rosalind Johnson and Patricia Eubanks who is leading Aimee Olivio by less than 1% in District 4.
With most of these races decided the battle will now move to who will lead the system in the future. Verjeana Jacobs and outgoing member Ron Watson have led the body as Chair and Vice-Chair for the last three years with a voting majority made up of themselves and Rosalind Johnson, Pat Fletcher, and Owen Johnson. Owen Johnson and Ron Watson both decided to retire instead of facing the voters for reelection and Pat Fletcher was defeated earlier tonight. When the new body gathers for their swearing in on December 7th it is safe we can expect to at least see one challenge or more to the three term chairwoman presuming she even runs again to lead the body.

You cannot help but envy one so young.
The danger of course is his lack of life experience. He is surrounded by those who will attempt to make him beome a part of the political Borg, just as they have.

The amount of danger doesn't matter if no one informs him of it. If you're going to mention how it may be dangerous, instead of just adding to one of the reasons people are ageist in the first place (lack of life expierence) try commenting on how they can make up for that, or avoid what you are warning they might do.
