She's 39 - but if you didn't know, you'd estimate "People Like Us" actress Elizabeth Banks to be in her early 20's. What's the secret of that fabulous physique? A gluten-free, low carbohydrate diet, she told Women's Health magazine recently.
When she's prepping for a role, Elizabeth keeps her diet especially strict. "It’s essentially a gluten-free diet: no rice, no bread, no pasta,” she explained. “I’ll eat tons of protein and veggies. Also, I just drink water and tea … and alcohol.”
In addition, Elizabeth emphasizes the perks of portion control at all times. "People ask me how I stay thin, and I’m like, ‘When you go to the grocery store, buy more bananas than cookies.’ ” What about an occasional splurge? “[The freezer] is where my Girl Scout cookies are,” she confesses.
And Elizabeth says that you can even use that guideline of portion control when you're dining out. “Portion control is a real problem" in restaurants, she admits. “My husband and I always split one appetizer and one entree. I’m sure waiters hate us.”
As for her all-time favorite food: "Who doesn’t love meatloaf?” she sighs rapturously. “My father always made an amazing meatloaf, and I’ve inherited his skill. Leftover meatloaf in a sandwich? Come on!” (We're assuming that's gluten-free, high protein, low-carbohydrate bread, of course.)
