ASU Gammage gave us a terrific season of great Broadway shows which opened last September with Priscilla Queen of the Desert and ends with the phenomenal Jersey Boys, which opens July 22 and runs through August 3. Truly, if the summer doldrums are wearing you down, Jersey Boys will perk you up in a big way.

Jersey Boys, the 2006 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical, is about one of the most successful groups in pop music history. It has a great behind-the-scenes story of how four blue collar kids, Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi, became The Four Seasons, and a score that includes some of their biggest hits, this musical rocks from the minute the curtain goes up. The show features their hit songs “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes off You.” The music alone is reason enough to see Jersey Boys. However, the story is also totally engrossing as it chronicles both the group’s high and low points.

It’s always a little sad to see the ASU Gammage season come to an end. But the good news is that it won’t be long until the 2014-15 season opener. Kinky Boots, winner of six Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, opens the season on September 16 and will run through September 21.This hilarious show is based on a true story and features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein.
