Astros second baseman Bill Hall isn't off to a strong start offensively, but he continues to sacrifice his body in the field and on the bases in a valiant effort to keep the team in ballgames.
The 31-year-old Hall made a remarkable play in the second inning of Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field, as he ran into foul territory to catch a popup off the bat of Willie Harris while jamming his right foot underneath the padding of the wall that extends from the Mets' dugout down the first-base side.
Manager Brad Mills elected to pull Hall two innings later.
Hall was reportedly limping around the clubhouse following the Astros' victory, and although the injury isn't considered serious, Mills has decided to keep him out of the lineup on a day-to-day basis until the veteran second baseman's ankle feels 100 percent.
"What an outstanding play going over and fighting the crowd, as well as the sign and everything else," Mills said. "He had a long way to go for that. It was a great job on his part. He's probably going to be day-to-day. It's probably going to be a couple of days, anyway. We want that thing to be healed. He hit that sign down there and twisted it. We just need to make sure he's 100 percent."
For the time being, Matt Downs will likely get the starting nod at second.
Downs continues to produce off the bench, hitting .333 (7-for-21) with a homer, five RBI, three doubles and a run scored over 10 games.
