Astros general manager Ed Wade announced Tuesday that Houston has signed infielder Scott Moore to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.
Moore, 27, hit .295 with nine home runs, 53 RBI, 19 doubles and four triples in 123 games at Triple-A Iowa (Cubs' affiliate) last season.
He has spent four seasons at the major league level with the Cubs (2006-07) and Orioles (2007-08, 2010), posting a .223 batting average with seven homers and 27 RBI in 80 career games.
Moore, who was selected by Detroit in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, offers the Astros additional depth at first, second and third base, as well as in the outfield.
The left-handed hitting infielder was acquired by Chicago in 2005 as part of the trade package that sent Kyle Farnsworth to the Tigers.
He made his major league debut on Sept. 4, 2006 at Wrigley Field and scored a run against Pittsburgh in the Cubs' 5-4 loss.
Moore, a veteran of 10 minor league seasons, becomes the Astros' eighth non-roster player to receive an invite to Major League camp.
