The Houston Astros equipment truck was loaded on Monday morning at Minute Maid Park and departed for the two-day, 976.12 mile trip to Kissimmee, Fla., in anticipation of Spring Training.
Although it's a standard routine, the loading of the truck has become an annual event that creates excitement within the organization.
It marks the initial foundation of a new season.
With pitchers and catchers set to work out for the first time on Feb. 20 in Kissimmee, the truck will haul crucial items that are required for use by the players and staff over the duration of Spring Training.
According to the Astros, the following represents a checklist of the approximate number of items loaded onto the truck for this spring:
-30 pounds of rosin
-150 Astros helmets
-200 Astros jerseys
-200 belts
-288 black socks
-300 Astros caps
-600 pounds of laundry detergent
-1,000 pair of baseball pants
-6,192 baseballs
The Astros will also ship an assortment of items, such as bats, sunflower seeds and bubble gum, to Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee.
