Astros outright Carlos Corporan to Triple-A

Astros general manager Ed Wade announced Wednesday that Carlos Corporan cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, thus removing him from the 40-man roster.

Corporan can elect free agency due to a prior outright.

The 27-year-old Corporan hit .188 with 11 RBI and eight doubles over 154 at-bats in 52 games for the Astros last season.

He made 46 starts behind the plate.

Corporan signed with Houston as a minor league free agent on Nov. 24, 2010 and hit .250 with three homers and 12 RBI in 22 games at Oklahoma City prior to earning a call-up June 10.

With Jason Castro, Humberto Quintero and Craig Tatum on the Astros' 40-man roster and Chris Wallace distinguishing himself as a catching prospect, Corporan became the odd-man out.

Houston's 40-man roster now stands at 37.
