Astros ink OF Brad Snyder to minor league deal

Astros general manager Ed Wade announced Saturday that Houston has signed outfielder Brad Snyder to a minor league contract.

The deal includes a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.

Snyder, 29, hit .111 over eight games in a brief stint with the Cubs last season before being designated for assignment on June 11.

The Ball State University product spent the majority of 2011 at Triple-A Iowa, where he hit .290 with 11 home runsĀ and 57 RBI in 109 games.

Snyder was selected by the Indians in the first round (18th overall) of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, but never saw action in the majors with Cleveland, despite briefly wearing the uniform.

Chicago claimed him off waivers on June 23, 2008.

He ultimately made his major league debut with the Cubs on Sept. 7, 2010 and went hitless in one at-bat against Houston at Wrigley Field.

Snyder is hitting .167 (6-for-36) with five RBI, a double and two runs scored over two career big league seasons -- both with the Cubs.
