Astros ink catcher Carlos Corporan to minor league deal

Astros interim general manager David Gottfried announced Tuesday that Houston has signed catcher Carlos Corporan to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to Spring Training.

Corporan was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Nov. 16 after clearing waivers, but he elected to rejoin Houston as a free agent.

The 27-year-old Corporan hit .188 with 11 RBI and eight doubles over 154 at-bats in 52 games for the Astros last season.

He made 46 starts behind the plate.

Corporan signed with Houston as a minor league free agent on Nov. 24, 2010 and hit .250 with three homers and 12 RBI in 22 games at Oklahoma City prior to earning a call-up June 10.

He's now the 10th non-roster invite by the Astros to Spring Training.
