Readers who have always wanted to take an astronomy class but never had the opportunity, or those who want a refresher can log on to Dr. Bruce Betts’ virtual class on Wednesdays from Feb. 8 to May 9, 2012. Director of projects for Pasadena-based Planetary Society, Betts is leading the free class at California State University Dominguez Hills on DHTV from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
Viewers will be invited to interact with Dr. Betts and his special guests, and will be able to take tests and quizzes to cement their knowledge. The classes can also be watched on demand at the DHTV YouTube Channel. No registration is necessary and the classes are free.
Dr. Betts is a planetary scientist who worked for NASA managing planetary instrument development and working on planetary missions. At The Planetary Society in Pasadena, he “oversees projects that excite and involve the public in space exploration, such as the Mars Microphone, the Red Rover Goes to Mars project on the Mars Exploration Rovers, and a number of Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) projects,” according to his Planetary Radio biography.
He is a frequent contributor to The Planetary Report and hosts the weekly "What's Up?" feature on Planetary Radio and was on the panel for the final launch of the space shuttle Atlantis, streamed live to the KPCC Crawford Family Forum in Pasadena.
