Courtesy of a Feb. 9, 2013 piece in Mediabusters comes a story from CNN in which talking head Deb Feyerick discussed with Bill Nye the Science Guy whether the recent blizzard that savaged the northeast was caused by Global Warming. While this is an example of the tendency of some to blame every kind of weather, cold, warm, blustery, and calm, on global warming, Feyerick segued to the story about asteroid 2012 DA14, due to pass very close to the Earth on Feb. 15. Feyerick deadpanned, “Is this an effect of, perhaps, of global warming or is this just some meteoric occasion?”
Nye, who is not actually a scientist, though he has some engineering training, demurred from commenting on the asteroid/global warming hypothesis. However twitter lit up, according to twitchy, with the vast majority of tweets mocking Feyerick’s statement. The best was from humorist and Fox News contributor Greg Guttfeld who tweeted,” For those of you laughing at CNN's idea that global warming causes asteroids, you forget that warm climates tend to attract visitors.” Twitchy concludes by asking, where is Al Gore on this question?
