Aster, the timeless autumn flower.
A natural for El Paso this show of flowers will come in abundance at this time of year, September.
The aster plant can be seen starting up as toothed leaves a lot of times mistaken as weeds so pulled up and discarded. Indeed, they are daisy like flowers that are timeless for the drought conditions and stay in full bloom consistently.
The flower color is a purplish color with a yellow center in the middle. They grow into a large like flower shrub. They would be called fast growers. They have a tremendous sturdy stalk that grows wide and thick close to the base. With all the flowers that develop from this plant it can get top heavy it will need support from falling over. So should allow to grow amongst rock wall, tree or something giving added support.
They begin there bloom in early fall. These plants give consistent flowering throughout the fall months when most other plants have stopped their bloom for the season. Even in the late season they will still attract bee’s and butterflies in El Paso.
Asters are a good selection for cutting and bringing indoors into a flower arrangement. They are also classified as a perennial.
