The Associated Press released a list of the top games of 2009 today. The list included great games such as inFamous, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Assassins Creed II, with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves taking home the top honor for "Game of the Year". Conspicuously absent from the top 10, however, was any trace of music video games. With the likes of Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, The Beatles: Rock Band, Guitar Hero 5, Lego Rock Band, DJ Hero, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, and Band Hero all being released this calendar year, it was certainly a head-scratch-inducing moment.

Although Rock Band: Unplugged, DJ Hero and The Beatles: Rock Band all received "Honorable Mentions" for "Game of the Year", the biggest announcement for the genre was at the end article. After listing the top ten games of 2009, as well as the honorable mentions, Lou Kesten, the author of the article, made a bold statement by stating that Rock Band 2 was the "Game of the Decade".

Harmonix Music Systems provided an entirely new type of video-game experience with 'Guitar Hero,' giving all of us the chance to live out our rock-star dreams,' Kesten said. ""'Rock Band 2' is Harmonix's fullest realization yet of that ideal — and the one game I keep coming back to whenever I just want to have fun."
