The Official Xbox Magazine revealed on their website today that the “Assassin’s Creed 3” mission director, Philippe Bergeron, admitted that the first game in the franchise had drop-in co-op during one point in its development but was removed because Ubisoft never thought co-op made much sense with alongside the story of the Animus. An “Assassin’s Creed” title with co-op gameplay has always been a often desired addition for series fans so it’s strange to discover that cooperative play was intended for the franchise during its early stages.
Recent polls put out by Ubisoft about the next installment to the “Assassin’s Creed” series included questions meant to gauge fan reaction to the idea of added co-op to the next “Assassin’s Creed” title. Considering it’s now been revealed that the franchise was meant to have cooperative multiplayer elements from the beginning, this is a good indication that the developer is seriously contemplating co-op gameplay for the future of the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise.
