Assassin's Creed Unity was first introduced a few months ago with the first gameplay demos surfacing at E3 2014 last month. With co-op being at the heart of Assassin's Creed Unity, Ubisoft had to carve out a new narrative for players to take part in. If you're new to Assassin's Creed, this is good news for you.
Assassin's Creed Unity will be bringing a fresh narrative to the franchise, helping open back up that ease of access to players unfamiliar with the series. Alex Amancio, who is the creative director on Assassin's Creed Unity, talked about how this game will be a new start as well as how newcomers to Assassin's Creed will be able to jump in seamlessly.
"It's a new start, it's a new narrative start. That is symbolized by a completely new context for the present day. You've seen a little bit of an evolution with Black Flag, [but] we're not going to do the same thing. What we're doing with Unity is really the beginning [of] this new cycle of Assassin's Creed games.
"Because it's new, we can actually explain it properly because nobody is going to feel like it's redundant. I would say that Assassin's Creed Unity is the best entry point for the franchise since, [Assassin's Creed I]," Amancio said.
Assassin's Creed Unity places players in a new time frame with a new hero. This will be the seventh installment in the series, eighth if you count Liberation, and this one couldn't be more anticipated. How co-op ultimately plays into the narrative and overall feel of the game will be important.
Fans have been wanting co-op in an Assassin's Creed game for quite sometime, so this is merely Ubisoft listening to that. While we do not know much about the present day storyline, it'll be interesting to find out where exactly that stands, and if we'll still be playing through as that anonymous first-person, present day character we were in Black Flag.
Personally, an actual character or person to play as during the present day would be great to see return, as Black Flag's present day story proved forgettable. Assassin's Creed Unity will be launching on Oct. 28 and we can't wait to see this baby in motion.
