Were you one of the people who were thinking when you play Assassin's Creed 4 you are going to be able to stealthily creep up behind a Great White Shark, while under water, and take it down? Well guess what? You will not be able to do that.
In an exclusive interview with Examiner, Assassin's Creed 4 game director Ashraf Ismail confirmed to us that players will not be able to kill sharks while they are underwater.
"You can meet sharks in two ways. There is the harpooning and in the harpooning you’re the aggressor. The player is hunting the shark and it can be very difficult. There are some sequences where players will have to takedown a Great White Shark and it’s super difficult to takedown. It’s a very aggressive shark, it attacks you and it attacks your boat.
"For the underwater, we wanted to do the reverse and effectively, Edward is the pray, so you’re out of your element underwater. The underwater stuff, we took some liberties with it and decided players need to be much more careful. You’re using stealth to survive.
"There are a lot of elements in the environment that you can use, but it’s more about survival than it is about being aggressive. You can hurt them, you can make them go away from you for a bit, but you can’t outright kill them," Ismail said.
So you're welcome, we just saved you a ton of time and annoyance for when you get your hands on Assassin's Creed 4. It is a bit disappointing that we won't be able to take down sharks while under water, but the harpooning will certainly provide some sweet revenge.
It's also seems like it's going to be a nice change of pace for players to assume the role of the pray for once. We will all get the chance to finally experience shark hunting once the game launches on Oct. 30th.
