Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is announced

Having teased an announcement a few weeks ago, Ubisoft gave the next Assassin’s Creed title a formal reveal earlier. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will soon be heading to PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. Whether or not Black Flag will be heading to Sony and Microsoft’s next generation consoles is still unknown. As with Assassin’s Creed 3, the next installment will feature approximately sixty minutes of gameplay that is exclusive to the Playstation 3.

Following the success of 3’s naval combat, Black Flag will be pirate-themed, offering many more hours of battles on the high seas. There are several rumors going around as to when exactly this upcoming title takes place, and whether or not the protagonist and setting will have anything to do with Connor’s storyline. Given Connor’s popularity this past holiday season, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ubisoft linked the two titles together.

This upcoming title continues with Ubisoft’s desire to release a new Assassin’s Creed game yearly. While the series hasn’t completely suffered from the same issues many annual franchises have, such a tight release schedule could easily affect a series’ growth and ability to change over the years. Hopefully Ubisoft can continue to offer a new and interesting experience with the fourth main entry in the series.

More information about Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will appear within the next few weeks, and fans should expect to see cinematic and gameplay footage come E3.
