'Assassin's Creed 4: Black flag' announced by Ubisoft for current gen consoles

When it comes to the "Assassin's Creed" series, the main series doesn't normally get released one after another. For example, after "Assassin's Creed II", gamers got two spin off titles in "Brotherhood" and "Revelations" before the third game in the series finally game out.

Ubisoft is apparently not going the same route after "Assassin's Creed III". Today the company announced "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag". The game will introduce a new hero and a new setting as well, but neither of those have been detailed.

Looking at the boxart, the game looks to take place in the Caribbean during a time when pistols were becoming more prevalent. No details have been given out for the game just yet, but word on the street is more info will come out next week.

The game is confirmed to launch on all current gen consoles, along with the Nintendo Wii U. There's no word on if the game will come to the Playstation 4, which is expected to launch sometime later this year. PS3 owners do have a little extra to look forward to with ACIV, as the game will have "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay."

"Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" is expected to launch later this year.
