On Feb. 26, 2013, Karisa Cruz, a second year graduate student at SCAD (a college of art and design) in Savannah, Ga., announced the completion of another stage of development with her film project.
The film is for one of Cruz's classes, Directing for Film and TV with Professor Lubomir Kocka (also at IMDb). Directing a Narrative, this film project, is her final assignment.
Cruz and the rest of the cast and crew have been in full swing with film project, "That Shattered Flower."
"This is not a one man (woman) show. This is a collaborative medium. I really like the experience of being on set. I began in front of the cameras. I remember loving it since I was 14, when I did my first commercial.
I understood back then that what I really loved, and still do, was the creative process of developing an idea and translating it to images. Also, for me, the set is a sacred place. Before we begin shooting I call for positive energy - calling 'The Force.' Spirituality is an essential tool in life." - Karisa Cruz
Examiner.com was invited on set for one day of film shooting on location in downtown Savannah near the university's campus.
"The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) offers bachelor's and master's degrees. They also offer studies online through SCAD eLearning to help prepare talented students for professional careers.
SCAD offers degrees in more than 40 areas of study, as well as minors in nearly 60 disciplines in such locations as Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and in Lacoste, France." - SCAD
Cruz told Examiner.com a bit about herself and the many others who are making this project possible.
"I am an observer, a journalist and a writer who studies film. I am passionate about production and photography.
This movie has been a learning process, and on this project, as on others, I have worn many hats.
A few of the many who have been part of the film's team and have helped me are my sister Veronica Cruz, Ivan Bonilla as director of photography, Lee Hostick as production coordinator, my parents, and SCAD classmates.
Veronica returned to Puerto Rico today where she will complete her undergrad in Audiovisual Communication. She is also a certified makeup artist."

The video clip on Cruz's website is a self portrait video-collage that she made for her narrative class. The song used to develop the visual structure is "Muchacha (Ojos de Papel)" from the Argentinian band Almendra (1969).
Due to Cruz's recent film project still being under construction, Examiner.com will hopefully be able to share more information to the public in future articles.
Currently Cruz and the film team are much closer to a finished product, as editing of the film is the next step.
This new upcoming short was inspired by a real life drama that occurred in 2012. The film touches on the tragic circumstances of a teen who was bullied in high school.
One can only look forward to future articles about the film, and also to its progress, more about its cast and crew and, in addition, come to enjoy never-before-seen set photos. The tentative release date for "That Shattered Flower" is spring 2013.
Karisa Cruz has also been involved in the short film, "Totto."
"Right now we are in the post-production process of 'Totto,' a live action animation with CG (computer graphics).
[Another SCAD student], Ivan Bonilla, was the director. The film was for his MA final project. I was the executive producer that managed successfully a Kickstarter campaign."
