Aspect of Hydra is a new "Born of the Gods" spoiler card revealed today Jan. 22, 2014 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming "Magic: The Gathering" expert expansion set in an article on Wizards.com detailing the release notes for the set. This common green instant has the potential to help one of your creatures deal an amazing amount of damage for just one green mana.

Aspect of Hydra - G
Instant (Common)
Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is your devotion to green. (Each G in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to green.)
"Even alone I outnumber you."

Compare Aspect of Hydra to Giant Growth. Giant Growth will always pump your creature for three, while Aspect of Hydra's effectiveness relies upon your devotion to green. In corner case situations Aspect of Hydra may not pump your creature's power and toughness by three, especially if you're playing a multicolored deck and your opponent responds to the spell. It's not hard to imagine Aspect of Hydra pumping one of your creatures by five or more though, especially in the mid to late game.

Aspect of Hydra makes an excellent addition to green devotion decks abusing Reverent Hunter, Nylea, God of the Hunt, and Arbor Colossus.

How will you use Aspect of Hydra?
