Massachusetts Animal Coalition just sent out the following heads-up to animal shelters, rescuers and volunteers across the the state-
For the second year in a row, the ASPCA is running a$100,000 challenge contest. Local MA-based shelters, Lowell Humane Society, Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League of Boston all made it through the qualifying heat to make it into the challenge. According to the ASPCA, challenge contestants need to save at least 300 more cats and dogs between August and October 2011 than they did during the same period last year. There are over $300,000 in grants as prizes.
The 2011 Challenge prizes include:
- $100,000 Grand Prize Grant
- $25,000 Second Prize Grant
- $25,000 Community Engagement Award Grant
- $20,000 Best in Region Prize Grants
- $5,000 Fast Start Grants
- Research and Development (R&D) Grants
- $1,000 We Did It Grants
