Some time back in early 2008, Michael Schwartz received a $6,000 grant from the Brooklyn Historical Society to take part in their Interpreting Brooklyn Project. Schwartz was chosen as one of three writers who would attend workshops with Brooklyn historians and have hands on access to their archives which include subjects such as early Brooklyn, literary Brooklyn, slavery and abolitionism and our beloved Coney Island.
It is with all of this in mind that I find it quite fitting for Schwartz to be running an 'Ask the Experts' panel this afternoon starting at 4pm. Every Sunday during the summer months, Coney Island USA hosts the Ask the Expert lecture series. Past notables have included author of Coney Island Lost & Found, Charles Denson and representatives from The Municipal Art Society.
Michael Schwartz's credits include a play entitled 'Coney Island Last Stop' and various short stories and poems influenced by his Coney Island upbringing. He's expected to read excerpts from his novel in progress as well as deliver a graphic slide show. Time permitting, Mr. Schwartz may bring in a very special guest to perform a couple of original Coney Island songs. A session of Q&A will follow the lecture series.
Admission to the lecture is $5.00 for the general public and free to Coney Island USA members.

Micheal Shwartz recieved a $6000 grant, I have not read anything on what this money was used for- isnt the public supposed to be informed on such things
Plow down Coney Island (especially Nathan's before someone gets really sick from their NASTY pork products)...I want to stay in the new hotels and eat at the great restaurants planned for the area!
