As the seasons continue to change, so too must our skincare routine. But what was acceptable in your teens doesn’t quite do the trick as you enter adulthood and beyond. Curious about what really was necessary (and what habits we could skip), we turned to our favorite skincare guru, Ildi Pekar, to get tips on skincare at any age.

In your teens…
Now is the time to establish healthy skincare habits. Get a gentle foam cleanser that will help combat problem skin and ensure you wash your face twice daily. Now is also the time to start exfoliating! Between activities in school and home, sweat buildup only creates more breakouts. Most importantly, they need to moisturize, even if they have oily skin! Now is also the time to start visiting your esthetician for monthly deep cleansing facials that will help reset your skin monthly.

In your twenties…
Your 20’s are the most important age not to go overboard with destroying your skin with sun damage, dehydration or dieting. Although, it is typically difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle, what you do in your 20's shows on your skin as you age! Drink plenty of water to boost oxygen and blood circulation within your body. Using cleansing products twice daily, exfoliating twice a week, and finishing with a light moisturizer and a light eye gel is great skin care routine – simple, basic, and refreshing.

In your thirties…
The good news is that your skin typically is less oily as you enter this stage. The bad news, is that by not having enough oil, your skin can become dry and create visible wrinkles. Now is the time to delve deeper into the anti-aging category. Continue with your cleanser but add a toner to your daily routine to firm skin and balance your pH levels. Use a moisturizer with active ingredients that maintain a youthful glow and skin nutrients such as peptides, antioxidants, and amino acids.

In your forties…
ALERT! This is the time to really focus on anti-aging as your skin will start to show wrinkles, large pores, pigmentation, and darkness under the eyes. You may also notice less skin elasticity, which can lead to sagging. Because dry skin exacerbates these issues, you want to avoid any drying ingredient in your products. In fact, you may want to start adding face oil at night under your moisturizer. Introduce yourself to a natural Retinal A or try a DIY hydrating mask at home.

In your fifties…
You may notice your skin’s texture changing and sagging occurring more frequently. Maintain a healthy skincare routine by cleansing with a super hydrating face wash, followed by an anti-aging and hydrating moisturizer, eye cream, and sun block for the day. At night use face oil and a heavier night cream with ingredients like vitamin C, growth factors/stem cells (for rejuvenation), and peptides. If this is still not enough, I use a little trick with my clients: wipe your cotton ball in warm water and wipe the face with warm water before applying the moisturizer to help skin absorb ingredients and maintain its youthful texture and glow.

Skincare for any age, ensuring you put your best face forward.
