Dear new_dad: First of all, congratulations! I did a little research and the short answer is: yes! It's actually called Paid Family Leave. You must participate in the State Disability Insurance Program (SDI), usually taken directly out of your paycheck, to qualify. Paid Family Leave is meant for taking care of a newborn baby, adopted or foster child, seriously ill parent, family member, child, spouse, or domestic partner.
