Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has many treatment modalities besides acupuncture. One of the most important is massage. In Asian traditions there are many styles of massage, often incorporating Chinese medical diagnostic principles, these are referred to as Asian bodywork therapy. The idea is to use manipulation of the body and tissues to help the body overcome problems and to heal. Acupressure, and tui na are two of the common basic forms of Asian bodywork therapy.
There are several schools teaching Massage therapy in Wisconsin. One school is the East-West Healing Arts Institute in Madison. It is run by a very highly regarded Chinese Medicine practitioner, Dr. Xiping Zhou. This school has a particular emphasis on teaching Asian Bodywork therapies along with the basics of TCM diagnosis.
East-West Healing Arts Institute is opening a new branch school in the Milwaukee area. The school has an open house coming up September 14 2013, where prospective students can learn more about the program.
