Ashley Wagner quiets figure skating critics; stunning Olympic program (photos)

Ashley Wagner had a lot to prove when she skated on the ice to start her Olympic figure skating short program. The controversial choice of being on Team USA was very much silenced by the way she held herself during her performance. Offering a clean skate and getting all the necessary elements in her program, there was little doubt people approved of her programs. According to the Sochi Olympics website on Wednesday on Wednesday Ashley’s score was 65.21 and put her in medal contention.

While her step sequence was strong, her jumps looked solid and the twists seemed nearly perfect, the athlete was competing with some of the best in figure skating and her score reflecting the difference. Almost 10 points lower than Yuna Kim who offered an effortless performance earlier in the evening, Wagner will need to really shine on Thursday for the freestyle program.

Overall Ashely Wagner did what she needed to do to possibly get a medal. Offering a solid program, giving some amazing facial expressions and showing plenty of confidence, it appears the athlete can only hope that tomorrow she does even better to bring home a medal for America.
