Ashley Judd Senate: Actress to challenge McConnell?

Ashley Judd in the Senate race? The actress and Kentuckian is seriously in the running to try and strip Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell from his position as senior senator from the commonwealth of Kentucky. The Huffington Post reports, on Monday, Feb. 25, that Judd is canvassing the state to see what money can be found for the effort. Can a young and pretty actress unseat one of the top Republicans in Congress? Wait and see.

Ashley Judd with her eye on a Senate seat, has sparked new life into Kentucky Democrats. "I would be surprised if she doesn't run at this point," Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), said in an interview. Yarmuth is the only Democrat in Kentucky's current congressional delegation. “My impression is this is something she wants to do, and she is now taking the time to make the contacts she needs to make throughout the state to try and generate commitments of support and in some cases fundraising."

Known as a political activist more than a politician, Ashley Judd, 44, may be just a bit too liberal for Kentucky’s taste. Another big problem? She is currently living in Tennessee. But both those inconveniences can be modified if enough big names back Judd for the campaign.
"She is certainly acting like a candidate, a potential candidate," Yarmuth went on. And the governor of the state – a fellow Democrat – has become a backer. Gov. Steve Beshear calls Ashley Judd a "serious candidate."

Other Democrats, who do not expect Judd to win the election, nevertheless think her running will rejuvenate the party. That’s politics.
