Ashlee Simpson premieres official 'Bat for a Heart' single

Pop singer Ashlee Simpson premiered her single, “Bat for a Heart,” on Wednesday morning. The dark dance track is her latest foray into the music scene since releasing 2008's Bittersweet World album.

“Bat for a Heart” opens with a piano lightly playing over a steady drum machine as Simpson sings with attitude: “I'm gonna bang, bang, f—ck you up / Twist you out inside of my head.” The track then becomes an electro-pop affair when synthesizers flickering like a neon sign and police car sirens kick in. Simpson describes feeling jilted by a lover. She penned the song with Christina Aguilera “Beautiful” writer Linda Perry.

Simpson's newest single marks a more mature sound for the “Pieces of Me” singer. The song was originally previewed in a 50-second video clip on Simpson's website. It is not yet known if “Bat for a Heart” will lead to a new album. She independently released the track to iTunes on November 21.
